Both of these articles have to deal with the great depression. The first article talks about President Herbert Hoover. It mentioned how when the great depression hit America, he was blamed for it. Everyone believed it was his fault for putting the people in the worst economic disaster. It even goes further in talking about his life after everything that had happen and when he was out of office. The article says,” The economy eventually recovered from the depression, but the Hoover name did not”.
The second article picks up kind of where the first article ended with Hoover coming out of office and FDR going in. Franklin D. Roosevelt, in the people’s eyes, cleaned up Hoovers mess even though it wasn’t really his fault. One of the first things FDR did was close national banks and made the statement,” We are now off the gold standard”, which was a way for people to get money by using gold. This article, like the first one, talks about other topics as well.
In my first website it talked about gene ownership and it went before the Supreme Court. It said that as soon as you or a doctor takes out your DNA it’s no longer your property. It’s owned by a company. With this it’s also a violation of your rights. With the other website it talked about tech contractors opposing anti-china procurement law. They say with a new counter cyber spy law will leave agencies even more vulnerable to breaches. This all started when china was believed to be hacking into the U.S government. The “mandate was signed into law March 26 applies to the departments of Commerce and Justice, NASA and the National Science Foundation”.
In both of these Articles they talk about how communist is bad and how it affects the people who live in Korea. The articles talk about how the people there have no say in what happens in the country. There is no money and very little food that have to eat in the country the only people that live good are the military or high up in the government there. In too days way of life this is such a shock to people who live in America because we have a democratic government. If we were to change from all the freedom that we are used to I think that Americans would never take what they have for advantage again. People who live in the communist country of Korea have no idea about the new advancements in the world they live in and I think that the people would really want to force the government to change to democratic.
\Brandon Knappenberger The impassioned push for new gun laws, born from the slaughter of schoolchildren, has collided with the marble-hard realities of Congress. Gun control was one of the governments policies that they wanted to limit because of all the crimes that guns are used for besides police and the military. Both of the articles that I have chosen suggest the gun control had failed because of the constitutions 2nd amendment, “The Right to Bear Arms”. A series of Senate votes marked the biggest moment in nearly two decades for those who want to limit guns in America, and for those who don't. Gun Control failed. One of the articles talks about how we should have background checks on everyone who wants to obtain a weapon like a pistol or an assault rifle. 74% of gun owners support the background checks while the other 26% do not. I think that the government won’t be able to limit guns from America but I think that they can at least put background checks on everyone who is trying to buy a ranged weapon.
These articles are about India using its air power to cut off India’s supply routes, in result of that India and Pakistan were at war. Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Pervez Musharraf wanting to split India’s links between the Western and Eastern portions and end a 50 year conflict in the international community. Recently there was another incident when fled from the Islamabad High Court, which had denied his plea for bail after a lower court ordered his arrest in a treason case against him, and retreated to his villa in the Islamabad suburb of Chak Shahzad, trying to avoid criminal prosecution. He puts the army and other power brokers in a weird space during a fragile political transition. He returned but the army has worked its way to separate itself from any of the political issues, because any involvement could backlash for them.
http://www.smh.com.au/opinion/political-news/no-revisiting-gay-marriage-abbott-20130503-2iygv.html http://www.dailynews.com/news/ci_23152752/rhode-island-become-10th-state-recognize-gay-marriage The articles that I red talked about how people view gay marriage differently some people look at gay marriage from the point of if they are going to raise children. The other people are ok with gay people as long as the gay people are not going to be raising kids. The only thing that the gays have on their side is that the state would have to change or create a new law stating that gay people can get married and live happy. This relates to class because we are learning about how the white people treated black people poorly and how the whites did not want to go to school with the blacks. The other article that I read talks about how Rhode Island became the tenth state to legalize gay marriage.
The two articles that I read discussed the fact that black voters and minorities in general have a higher voting rate then white people. In the first article shows that in the past 16 years the percentage of white voters have decreased by 10 percent from around 83 percent down to 73. While white people seem to be losing their interest in voting this doesn’t seem to be the case for African Americans. They have increase around 13 percent from around 53 percent to around 66 percent. Studies have shown that most of the reason for the decrease in white voters has been because they said they are just too busy to vote. My second article pretty much discussed the same thing as the first except discussed other races not just African Americans. The studies in that article say that they suspect the rise in votes in the 2012 election were due to the fact that Obama was the president. Civil rights groups encouraged black people to vote and they did. This relates to what we are learning because back in the 50s/60s black people were fighting for the right to vote. They couldn’t even really vote yet. Now they are coming out in force and are passing the amount of white voters
On Thursday, May 9th, 2013 hundreds of students in the Philadelphia School district staged a walk out. They left class and walked through center city to city hall. This was in response to the budget cuts happening all across the Philadelphia school district cutting after school activities, art, music and sport programs outraging and upsetting these students. In response to this they organized the walkout using social media, creating a facebook group to get the word out to the effected students and tell them about their plans for this massive protest. I relate this to the march on Washington because in both cases they marched for a cause and both were held near political places such as Washington, DC and city hall. This is of course on a much smaller scale but they still got their point across and got plenty of media attention. We saw that the march on Washington had a positive outcome because of all media attention it got, the desegregation of buses and the inspiration it gave to people. We will see what happens to the Philadelphia budget cuts after this very public protest.
The politics in the 1960’s could be described as chaotic. So much happened during the 1960’s from the civil rights movement, to the counter-culture movements, a presidential assassination, the Vietnam War and the Cold war. To start of the new decade president John F. Kennedy was elected into office after beating out Richard Nixon. John F. Kennedy wanted his presidency to be something new. This spoke out to a lot of people, and through this promise of change JFK got many votes from the African American population and the younger voters. The nation would be in the hand of the democrats through the better part of the sixties, even after the assassination of JFK. His successor Lyndon B. Johnson would then enter the United States in a war against communist North Vietnam. This war was opposed by many people which is why some believe that the nation needed to take a different look at things and electing Richard Nixon a republican to office in 1968, though some experts say that RFK would have won if not assassinated like his brother. The nation during the 60’s still had segregation, mostly in the south however the people in office tried to get rid of segregation.
Twelve states plus Washington D.C. have made same sex marriage completely legal. Public opinion has gradually shifted in favor of same sex marriage. Most national polls now show that more than 50 percent of Americans say gay couples should be legally allowed to marry. Minnesota became the 12th state to make same sex marriage fully legal in May. But the issue remains with the states, and supporters of gay marriage face a tough road ahead. Thirty six states have banned same sex marriage all together, and thirty one states have passed constitutional amendments that make such marriages illegal. There are also two important cases awaiting decisions from the Supreme Court. The court may overturn the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act, meaning that legal gay marriages would be treated the same as other marriages by the federal government. Not only in the united states but also all around the world same sex marriage laws are being passed and France is getting ready for its first same sex marriage.
These are about current government problems and events. These problems are manly about the Senate and House of Representatives and The republicans and democrats. Many of these events are over decision making and problems they face.
